Why I Created Steps Against Homophobia

Football has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember.

It's given me unforgettable memories, introduced me to incredible people and shown me the positive impact that sport can have on individuals and communities. But it's also made me aware that not everyone experiences football in the same way.

For many LGBTQ+ people, sport can still feel like a place where they have to hide part of who they are or worry about how they'll be treated. While progress has been made, there is still more to do to ensure everyone feels welcome and included.

That is why I created Steps Against Homophobia.

The campaign is built around a simple idea: to start conversations through action. In April 2027, I'll walk 339 miles from Axminster in Devon to Liverpool, visiting communities along the way and encouraging positive conversations about inclusion in sport.

This journey isn't about having all the answers. It's about listening, learning and bringing people together around a shared belief that sport should be a place where everyone belongs.

Over the coming months I'll be sharing the planning, preparation, training and milestones leading up to the walk. I hope you'll enjoy following the journey and, if you'd like to get involved, I'd love to hear from you.

Thank you for being here from the very beginning.
