This is why I am doing this.
Â
In April 2027, I’ll be walking 350 miles over 18 days from my first football club in Axminster, Devon to Liverpool FC.

The walk starts on April 1st, marking 13 years since I came out to my parents something that, looking back, feels slightly ironic, but also incredibly important to me.  This journey is about sharing real experiences in sport. It’s about showing that there are places where everyone belongs. And helping people realise they’re not alone, and that sports belongs to everyone.
I’m just a regular person who loves sport.
From a young age, sport gave me a sense of belonging being part of a team, pushing myself, and feeling connected to something bigger.
Â
But as I got older, that feeling became more complicated.

There were times I didn’t feel comfortable being fully myself. Not because of anything directly said, but because of the environment what felt accepted, what didn’t, and the fear of standing out in the wrong way.

And when I did start to open up, it brought a different kind of challenge.
I found myself in a place that felt in between too gay for some teams, but not quite fitting into others either.
That’s a difficult space to be in, especially in sport, where so much is about identity and belonging.  Eventually, I found a club where things felt different. It was inclusive, competitive, and most importantly, I didn’t feel like I had to be anyone other than myself. That experience changed everything. It showed me that those spaces do exist but not everyone knows that.
WHY THIS MATTERS
